I've spent years working in the space between people, processes, and technology.
I'm usually the person asking questions like:
Why are we doing it this way?
Why are we entering that information twice?
Why does this have to go through three people?
Why do we have a system that nobody actually uses?
And, probably my favorite:
Could this be easier?
Usually, the answer is yes.
I created HC to help small business owners get some of their time back.
As businesses grow, the way they operate tends to grow piece by piece.
A new employee creates a new process. A new problem leads to another spreadsheet. Someone buys software to solve something else. A workaround becomes the way we've always done it.
Eventually, you can end up spending an incredible amount of time managing the business instead of actually growing it.
I help step outside of all that history and look at how the work is really getting done.
Then we figure out what actually needs to change.
Technology can be incredibly useful.
But buying another tool doesn't fix a bad process.
Before recommending a system, automation, or new piece of software, I want to understand the people doing the work, the process they're following, the information they need, and what's actually getting in their way.
Sometimes the answer is technology.
Sometimes it's a better process.
Sometimes it's clearer ownership.
And sometimes the best recommendation is:
Don't change it. It's working fine.
My job isn't to sell you more stuff.
It's to help your business work better.
I've spent my career creating processes, improving systems, working with data and reporting, coordinating vendors, implementing technology, training people, and translating between the people who run a business and the people who build the technology supporting it.
That last part matters.
You shouldn't have to speak “tech” to explain what your business needs.
And your employees shouldn't have to understand the logic behind a system to know how to use it.
A big part of my job is connecting those pieces and turning them into something that works in real life.
Because time is usually the thing business owners don't have enough of.
A clunky process costs time.
Manual work costs time.
Looking for information costs time.
Fixing the same problem over and over costs time.
Being the only person who knows how something works costs time.
And every hour spent unnecessarily managing those things is an hour you don't get to spend somewhere else.
HC Systems and Consulting exists to give some of that time back.
HC Systems and Consulting is based in Fishers, Indiana.
I especially enjoy working with small businesses because improvements don't disappear into a giant organization. You can actually see the difference they make — for the owner, for the employees, and for the people they serve.
If your business has reached the point where the way you're working isn't keeping up with where you're going, I'd love to hear what's happening.
